Coleman Generators In My Home!
I had never seen Coleman generators move off the shelves so quickly as they did last winter. We had a particularly bad cold snap and all the people who said they had been going to get a generator that season were caught short and made a beeline for the store. The poor owner was rushed off his feet and I'm sure was wishing that he had at least five times more stock as he would have been able to sell it all. Coleman generators are really popular around here as a lot of builders take them out on to the site and they just seem to be the ones that you see in the backs of trucks or in people's generator rooms. We are really a little bit cross with ourselves that we didn't get organised and look at Coleman generators before the rush set in. We would have had a much bigger selection and as it was, we were only able to make our choice from two that were left. Even though the one we chose was okay it would have been nice to see the other types that are available. Coleman generators have a great reputation for being not only easy to use but easy to maintain and portable enough to move around. We have positioned ours permanently on the edge of the verandah away from all Windows and it has its own housing to help minimise the noise.
Coleman generators are just one among the dozens of different makes and models of generators that are available for home use. On average a typical home needs a generator that can output around 3000 W. Coleman generators make a couple of great units around this size as well as larger units of around 5000 W. we were lucky enough to be able to get a larger generator at the time. Instead of purchasing one of their backup systems of Coleman generators we chose to get one of their premium plus models which is just a little bit more robust and designed for more frequent use. We didn't think we needed to go up to the largest model which is the professional unit as this is designed for the commercial tradesman. One thing we will do though is to get it connected to our house via a transfer switch. We will need to get a licenced electrical contractor to install this for us. Unfortunately it will cost a bit but it is the best way to get Coleman generators safely connected to the home supply. We were also able to get a larger fuel tank on our generator which will enable us to run it for longer periods of time. It is surprising that there aren't more accidents during these times of severe weather by people that don't fully understand the safety issues. Iit is possible to cause electrocution to linesman by a generator incorrectly used in the home situation. Not only this, it is also easy to set the house on fire by an incorrectly used generator. Coleman generators certainly earn their money around our neck of the woods. Because our storm season is so severe we never have a year that we don't lose power for an extended period of time, and we were just as guilty as others for not having a backup power system. We feel really happy now along with all the others that have bought Coleman generators that we are going to be properly prepared for the next big event. |
