Versatile Industrial Generators
When temporary or emergency power is required on a large scale, industrial generators are generally brought in to either supplement the normal power supply or replace it, depending on the circumstances. Can you remember wondering what that very large bright orange container was that was parked outside the stadium at last year's final game? This is just one of the many ways that industrial generators are used. Generally though, they have an extremely important role in providing short-term emergency power after storms and floods or natural disaster. Once you become familiar with these large industrial generators, it comes as no surprise to see them dotted all around the city. You will find them at special events such as music tours, city festivals and world cups where there is always a need for massive amounts of power. The only way to supply it on such a large scale is to rent one of these specialised industrial generators.
There are very few industries that at some stage don't require the services of industrial generators. In the areas of mining and quarrying for example, they could be responsible for powering living accommodations as well as the power backup for equipment. Industrial generators can be found in the areas of oil and gas exploration, petrochemical refineries, utilities and telecom, as well as the food and beverage industries. You may even find one of these parked in the car park of the local shopping mall, providing backup power during busy times or renovations. Of course not all industrial generators are of this size. The construction and rental industries rely on portable industrial generators. These may be ones that are specifically designed for welding, or just very rugged with enormous power output to run heavy duty equipment on construction sites. It is important to know that many of these industrial generators are not compatible with home transfer or isolation switches as they are designed to produce three phase power only. You could be forgiven for thinking that they are just big brothers of home standby generators, but there is far more to them than this. There are of course industrial generators that can be adapted very well to home use as a standby or emergency unit. Honda for example, have industrial generators that are leaders in their field, and quite a few of their models are able to be connected to a home transfer switch. You would need to use the generator quite regularly to make this a worthwhile option because of the increased cost. However against this is probably more economical use, less maintenance and more reliability. If you are looking at industrial generators as an alternative to a standby unit then it is advisable to seek professional guidance either by your electrical contractor or from a knowledgeable salesperson. There are a lot of safety issues involved running any generator and these units are just a little more complicated. At least you shouldn't be faced with the problem of never having enough power, particularly for items such as the gas furnace or the refrigerator which need extra power when the motors begin running. |
